Passionate Play

SEEDS Fine Art Exhibits 8-9 2011

This year we have featured two artists:  Wayne Forte and Denise Weyhrich.

Wayne Forte is a very prolific and talented painter, who has been active long time supporter of SEEDS.  This time, Wayne shared his series of banners that he created in the Philippines during his last trip.  These works look at Jesus' parables in a very personal way.  Wayne also peels back the layers of the visual picture we create in our minds about the sometimes overly familiar parables, and gives us new insight into the interactions in the stories. Brightly colored, whimsical powerful, these are works not to be missed.

Denise Weyhrich shared her quirky, fun, conceptual installation pieces this time, which are like a puzzles you need to figure out.  Denise uses both created works and found objects to create her artworks which always come back to God's gracious love for us. Sometimes she talks about Jesus' parables, and other times she uses visual double entendres and/or wordplay. Particular to St. John's is the 70,000 communion cups repurposed over a year and a half in a true labor of love, to create one large "communal" communion cup. ( zrc )
